In case you missed it….
We’d like to thank everyone who came out to support the April SMCUV meeting. We had a wonderful time and were so lucky to hear from such an amazing and knowledgeable presenter, Josh “Shua” Peters. This month’s meeting was held at Thanksgiving Point in the Garden Room, and we couldn’t have asked for anything better. It was beautiful and the staff made us feel welcome. We are grateful for LotusJump for sponsoring our event, which meant w
e were able to enjoy a delicious buffet catered by Thanksgiving Point!
Just to give you a small recap, in case you weren’t able to attend (you missed out!):
We started the meeting with introductions and were able to get to know more of our fellow Utah Valley social media lovers.
Next, we heard from LotusJump who spoke briefly on utilizing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) software that allows users to perform their own SEO. This LotusJump program compiles tasks that are categorized (buzz tasks, question and answer, content generations tasks, etc.) and teaches the user how to get the most out of their own SEO management. Small businesses and individuals can use these programs to market their products and generate traffic to their websites.
Finally, we heard from our key note speaker, Josh “Shua” Peters. Josh gave an exciting presentation on G.L.A.M, which stands for:
Goals
Listening
Actions
Measurement
We spent time on each piece to emphasize its specific importance in social media as it applies to our businesses. Our goals need to be somewhat flexible, but be in line with our mission as a business. It is important to listen not only to our customers, but what everyone on the web is saying about our company. If we listen, we will be better able to respond appropriately. Our actions are determined by setting our goals and our content is created by what we have heard after we listen. Finally, we need to measure our progress and our ROI. What did we gain, what did we profit, and what do we need to change?
Josh is also the co-author of Twittfaced, which can help further your knowledge of how to really utilize social media for your company.
Ultimately, our meeting was very successful and we were grateful to all of you for your attendance and support. We hope to see you next month!
